They have been working on us, using us to fulfill their own purposes. Four plants that have travelled the road to success, but satisfying our desires.

The tulip, by satisfying our longing for a certain kind of beauty. Marijuana, by satisfying our ambition to alter our consciousness. The potato, by fulfilling our desire to control nature so we can feed ourselves. The apple, by satisfying our appetite for sweetness, beginning in Kazakhstan and now is universal fruit. These four plants are by far the winners in the domestication process, each playing a part in human civilization.

Join Michael Pollan as he explores our relationship with four plants that are essential to human life.
