Filmmaker Michael Moore exposes the dysfunctional United States health care system. Sicko shows how this corrupt American political system is clearly putting profits ahead of saving lives, exposing how US politicians are being bought by corporations at the expense of everyday Americans.
The documentary opens with Moore meeting with a few of the 50 million uninsured citizens who are performing medical procedures on themselves, purely because they cannot afford health insurance or have been caught up in bureaucratic red tape.
After detailing just how the system got into such a mess, Moore visits countries including Canada, Great Britain and France, where all citizens receive free medical benefits. We also meet some of the 9/11 rescue workers now suffering from debilitating illnesses who have been denied medical attention in the US. He takes them to a most unexpected place, and in addition to finally receiving care, they also engage in some unexpected diplomacy.
