Saving Face is a compelling documentary taking us to Pakistan to hear from the women who are victims of acid attacks.
We meet Zakia and Rukhsana, two survivors of acid attacks, who reveal the struggles they face in overcoming both the physical and mental damage, as well as achieving justice.
Recently Pakistan received a reminder of how these heinous crimes affect women when Fakhra Younas – a victim of an acid attack – recently committed suicide when her ex-husband was acquitted.
Each year in Pakistan, hundreds of mostly women and children fall victim to these brutal attacks with many not being reported to police. And with limited access to reconstructive surgery, survivors are physically and emotionally scarred for life.
The victims often know most attackers, often the husband or someone else close is responsible, but receive very little if any punishment for their crime.
