Bob Marley

The legendary singer Bob Marley, came of age on the hard streets of Trenchtown in Kingston Jamaica, what he referred to as the “concrete jungle.” His album “Catch a Fire” with his group “The Wailers” ignited global interest in reggae music and catapulted him into the forefront of the revolutionary movements of the 1970s.

Renowned for his searing lyrics and his belief in Rastafari, the controversial religion he followed, Marley was shot during a Jamaican election campaign and sang at the liberation ceremony for the new nation of Zimbabwe.

He later received a United Nations Medal of Peace for his efforts to bring the feuding factions of his country together. Part poet, part prophet, the year 2011 marks the 30th anniversary of his death from cancer.
